You need one or moreMIDI keyboards to really play the Miditzer

Postby dadrowland » Thu Sep 15, 2005 5:04 pm

I have a Casio ctk-491 keyboard that I am using as my solo keyboard.  Generally I am dissatisfied with the sounds I get from the upper 2 octaves.  It is particularly irritating when using 4 or 2 ft stops or horns.  It seems to be very crass and brassy.  My question is, can the octaves be transposed upward by one octave.  I have referred to the owners manual and haven't found the answer.

I am puzzled by your request. I found your manual on-line and the
CTK-491 keyboard should correspond exactly to the keyboard you see on
the Miditzer screen. Pressing the low C on your keyboard should play
the lowest C seen on the screen and playing the high C should play the
high C on the screen.

That being the case, I wonder if there is some problem with your sound
synthesis or speakers. Is the sound font setup correct? Any problems
with the speakers or amplifier?

You can use the sub-octave and unison off couplers to push the pitch down by an octave, but you shouldn't need to.

Thanks Jim:  It may be my speakers.  I have the treble turned to the lowest point.  In addition, if I raise the base up past center line, I get distortion something fierce.  I have had this problem from the beginning.  Early in the week it was catastrophe.  I was running windows98 Se with 2 soundcards.  Everything worked fine other than the above mentioned problem.  Monday evening I began getting sounds from the miditzer that sounded like jackhammers.  Reinstalled miditzer and soundfonts.  Same problem.  Reinstalled both soundcards, same problem.  Reloaded the system with windows2000, and reinstalled everything else.  Works fine now other than the irritating high notes.  PS.  Even lost use of the rear speakers through it all.??????
This isn't intended to deluge you with problems.  Just letting you know what happened.  The keyboard notes do correspond to the miditzer keyboard.  Unison off does help.
